I suppose, for some people, this highlights a fresh start and a load of new goals and targets to achieve, and for others it may be ‘business as usual’. Last year rolls into this year and we continue to do what we have always done.

For me there is a bit of both. My goals evolve and change, but are mainly around the same things. I have holidays to organise, health targets to set and financial objectives to aim towards, probably the same things we all focus on.

I reviewed my 2024 targets and was pleased with my achievements. There were some things that were forgotten or kept moving down the priority list, but, on the whole, I got stuff done! So in my little world, last year was a success, in some ways, but not in others. My health goal got ‘side swiped’ after my little fall down the stairs, which meant I didn’t achieve the 4 times a week exercise target. I have re-set this, for this year, and it begins with my gentle remedial exercise plan, includes some events and gives me a positive start to the year.

As we all know, success for everyone is different. How I measure my standing is different to you and everyone else. There are similarities, basic needs and ambitions, that most people have, but they also come in different forms. I might like to save and have short breaks away, whilst others save for a 3 month cruise trip, different targets, but experientially similar.

Whatever you are aiming for this year just make sure you also take the time to celebrate what you already have. Think about the contrast over the world and how lucky we are to live where we do. When I drive into town (Bournemouth for me) I always feel grateful to be living here. No matter the weather it always takes my breath away and I do feel privileged.

So, enjoy the start to the year and plan in your milestones as most things need to start with a small step. That could be a health goal, financial dream, job or role aspiration or moving to a place you love, it all starts with the vision, then the first step.

Like those of you that have grown up children (adults) still living at home, you know that saving for a mortgage is really unrewarding to start off with, especially as it grows and other things distract you. But, if you don’t start now, you’ll be in the same place next year and won’t have a leg to stand on if you start moaning about not having your own space.

Success takes effort and motivation but, more importantly, plans and actions.

One of my ‘things’ is to read more and I saw something on social media stating that if you read 20 pages a day that amounts to 30 books a year (On average). Guess what I am doing every day?

Have a great week and share your first step with someone, it helps with commitment.
