I have spent the last 2 weeks dealing with a chest infection and hacking cough – very unpleasant for me and everyone having to listen to me. I don’t normally get ill and, when I do, I’m usually over it quickly, but not this time.

As I am starting to feel better, but still sound awful, I am beginning to appreciate how wonderful life is, when you feel good. I know the sun is out, at the moment, so that also helps, but my mood is up because I feel better. There is no pressure behind my eyes, I’m not constantly coughing and my head feels clearer.

Whilst I have been unwell, I have delivered some sessions and, fortunately got through them without having a coughing fit, but I did have to take a few more sips of my water than usual and took time to  compose myself, at times, before starting to talk.

Being ill, sucks and I can’t imagine how people going through long term treatments, having constant pain, feeling uncomfortable, manage to keep smiling. I know our resilience does step up and we get through things, but it’s not great to feel rubbish all day, week, month or year(s).

So, as I get better each day, I am noticing how nice it feels, I appreciate being healthy and will take more steps to ensure it stays that way. As we all know, there are steps we can take to be healthier and prevent illness, but sometimes, no matter what you do, it can still get you.

If you were to measure (scale of 1-10, 10 being the best) how would you rate yourself on the following:

  • Taking regular exercise
  • Having enough rest and relaxation – on a daily basis
  • Going on holidays and taking breaks away from stress
  • Looking after your diet and nutrition
  • Drinking enough water
  • Getting 7-8 hours good quality sleep per night
  • Taking regular breaks
  • Managing your time (Saying no, no and then)
  • Balancing your life and where you spend your time
  • Working on building the relationships in your life

If you have some low scores, it might be worth tweaking some habits to ensure you have the best immune system you can have.

Good luck, stay healthy and enjoy life.
