Yesterday, the weather in Bournemouth was quite nice. The sun made an appearance and the temperature was up to a decent 14 degrees. I started my Sunday saying goodbye to Sandra, who was, unfortunately, off to work and then I got ready to join my mate on a Zwift ride. We would have gone ‘out, out’ but his back wheel is buckled so we could only do a turbo session.

The first 25 minutes were tough and hilly, but fortunately it was a short circuit, so manageable, although my legs didn’t think so and my heart was also telling me another story! We then jumped onto a volcano ride and did 3 laps of that, to complete an hour in total, which was the plan. (I was slightly short of an hour because I preferred to get off my bike and sit in a chair to cool down, instead of cycling!) ❤️😵‍💫

Having ticked off the cycle ride, I then moved into housework mode, starting with the emptying, then reloading the washing machine. I hung up the wet washing on the line (after clearing up all the dog mess in the garden) and then moved onto my next set of jobs. The ensuite is getting a face lift so I took the shower, and attachments, off the wall and cleaned the lot, getting rid of lime scale and bringing the metal up nice and shiny again.

Another load of washing in and out – the magic fairy doing good work for the kids.

By 1pm I’d peaked and lost a bit of momentum so I decided to have a spot of lunch and sit down, but not for long! The dog had chewed some bark off some firewood, in the front room, and there was bark everywhere, so, I cleaned up and told him off, only to find he’d done it again 10 minutes later.  That’s why we lock the door normally 😡

As Liverpool were playing at 3:30pm, and I wanted to watch the game, I thought I’d spend some time scrubbing the bathroom tiles and floor tiles, bringing the grout up nice and clean. It’s amazing that, when you start looking around the house at things that need a bit of TLC, there is so much to do.

I know our house is quite a busy house but how did it get so worn out? If we start painting one door, we will have to paint them all. The walls need a lick of paint, as well, and I mean “ALL OF THE WALLS” need painting. The blinds in the bedrooms, front room and dining room, all need replacing. When did they get old and broken? How is it possible to keep on top of it all?

I have a plan though……We have arranged for our windows, doors, guttering, facias and soffits to be replaced in May, so  I will sit down with Sandra and work out the order and sequence for these jobs to be done. Our Son, Eddie, is going travelling for a month (May – June) so we can get his room ‘sorted’ while he is away, instead of trying to work around him. I’ll kick Jack, my other Son, out for a weekend with his girlfriend, and clean, paint and decorate that space, as I don’t trust him to do it.

I’ll get a professional to do the front room, dining room and hallway, so by the time our windows and doors have been replaced, the inside of the house will be refreshed as well. Hopefully this will mean it will last another few years, before we need to do it again.

I feel better already. I have a plan / project to complete and now I am going to work out the finer details with timings, materials, costs and people and it’s all going to be completed by June. (I don’t know which year though 🤣).

When things in life get overwhelming, it’s good to sit down and break things up into smaller pieces. Starting a project can be daunting but once the plan is agreed and the first step taken, it starts to happen. No plan + no actions = poor results!

If you have something to do, that is growing every day and you keep putting it off, take time to think it through, start with a small manageable step, take regular actions and build momentum each day, you will achieve your goal.
