Well SBS01/24 complete! Short break series 2024 (Not Special boat service!). We just spent a couple of days away in a lovely hotel in Wales as our first, planned, break away. The Celtic Manor in Newport is beautiful and vast. Previously, a family home turned into a maternity hospital and, eventually, in 1982, opening as a hotel resort.
It has something for everyone and a couple of nights was, probably not long enough. We did fit in a couple of gym sessions and visited the sauna / pool / jacuzzi area to chill out. The only thing I regret not doing was being a bit more planned in advance. The hotel directs you to download it’s free App, once you have booked, and I did check in on line to get the virtual room key on my phone, but, I didn’t take the time to book meals or treatments.
This meant we had to eat at the remaining slots available, which didn’t always suit us as they were too late or too early. We didn’t get to go to Steak on Sixth restaurant, which was a shame, and I didn’t have time for a massage 😩. Other than that, it was an amazing break away and I’d recommend it to you all.
We returned home on Saturday afternoon, slightly disorientated with the days, and quickly got back into the routine of completing household chores and running around after family members. I did get time on Sunday to go cycling outdoors, for the first time in a while, which was a nice change from spending time on the turbo, so it’s been a busy week.
Now it’s Monday and the break away seems like a distant memory, but, the impact is still here. Spending the time to decompress for a couple of days, is priceless, especially as life is so busy at home. I feel ready to face challenges and complete work tasks, deal with whatever comes at me, and, manage to stay calm. We are looking forward to the next break away in 3 weeks time and this keeps us motivated to work hard and deal with the stress and strains of life.
SBS02/24 is in Lanzarote and I’m going to be a bit more organised, do some research and make sure we have plenty of options to eat, sleep, train, repeat. (Maybe not in that order!)
It’s times like this that give me a sense of satisfaction but I am very aware that it can fall apart at any minute, for all sorts of reasons, so it’s important to make the most of life while we can.
Top tips (A small reminder):
- Tell, those you love, how much you love them
- Enjoy the hustle and bustle of life, silence is boring
- Plan in advance, but have some spontaneity in healthy measures
- Be selfish, at times
- Look at the big picture and paint some sunshine in there
