I have literally just ‘got it’. I know why people get hooked on Tik Tok, it’s crazy. There is so much stuff available and it just sucks you in and steals your time. With so many opinions, ideas, points of views, across thousands of topics, it’s hard not to indulge. There is also so much rubbish on there, but you have to scroll through it to get something of interest or of use, sometimes.

I hadn’t really explored this form of social media as it seemed excessive to have ‘yet another’ platform to communicate on, but, it is addictive, once you start. Fortunately, I do have stuff to get on with and work to do so I find it easy to manage the time I spend on my phone. I did run out of data last week, partly because I used maps a lot and partly because I was watching football on my phone, while I was working away, but that’s the first time – ever! Could Tik Tok also be another reason? (To be fair I only had a 10GB allowance!)

Now, when I mention something to my wife and she asks “Where did you hear that?” and I say “On Tik Tok” she just tutts at me and rolls her eyes 😀. She thinks I’m too old to be on this and I don’t want to convince her that it’s a good thing to go on as, I think, she might get hooked on it, instead of Candy Crush 🤣.

I am not posting any comments or videos myself as that is one step too far, for me and I could end up in a world of trouble. One comment could be misinterpreted and go viral, which I do not have time for!

Normally, I embrace new things and like to think of myself as progressive, but when there are too many options and, I have something I already get on with, I don’t like changing. This has caught me out in the past when it comes to technology when an email system I was using became obsolete. I should have seen the writing on the wall as there hadn’t been any updates for 6 years so it was on its way out! I lost a load of emails because of a computer upgrade and a software system that didn’t support the old programme – lesson learnt.

It is tough to keep up with the new things, especially when you were use to writing everything in a diary and on calendars, but the things we have available to us now are amazing. We have progressed so much, in such a short time, and it’s getting faster each week. I know there will come a time, when I will sound like my Mum, and say “I can’t be bothered with it all now” and just use what I use.

But, until then, I am still exploring and trying to get on with new offerings. I just have to make sure I don’t embarrass my kids by doing something stupid on a platform I don’t understand.

Top tips:

  • Have fun
  • Be curious
  • If, what you have doesn’t work, change it
  • Pause before you post 😆

Have a great week….
