So I’ve taken the bike off the turbo, changed the break pads and am getting ready for a few outdoor rides. I am looking forward to riding in the New Forest again and want to ‘up my capacity’ again to do some sort of event, but, my main focus is getting fit for a Hyrox event in October. This event is mainly running and crazy exercises, for a 90 minute challenge, against other like minded people, so I do have to view the cycling as “something nice to do”.
I am sure if I didn’t have planned activities in throughout the year, I could get a bit lazy, but the fact I have booked, and paid, to do things makes me do some training. I feel good when I have ticked off one of the challenges but I am also aware that I need to book more things in the diary to keep the momentum up and have something to work towards.
I do have a slight problem though, I have a sore ankle and, having had it checked out, I have been advised to get it fused. This involves putting 3 long screws through the bones of my ankle to join 2 bones together so that I no longer get pain. It also means that I am out of action for 6-12 weeks in a cast, which is not great. I have done some research into the benefits of this procedure, but I am still unsure of what to do.
It’s not like I can undo it once it’s been done, so I have to be sure. The pain I get from running, is bearable, but not comfortable and I ache for a few days after. I do know that this situation will not get better, even if I stop running, so it will have to be done at some point, but is that point now?
Anyway, when I get the appointment for the operation, I will make my decision then 🤔.
In the mean time, I have things to do, places to be and people to visit so can’t sit and worry about this ‘glitch’ in my plans. I will keep moving forwards, doing events and managing the pain the best I can, whilst enjoying ticking another ‘thing’ off my list.
What keeps you doing the things you do? How do you stay motivated to achieve the things you achieve in your life?
Here are a few questions, I ask myself, that get me in to action:
- Why? – The first thing is to understand why you want to do something. What does it give you?
- What? – Work out what you want to do, there are normally a few options here.
- How? – Create your plan and follow the plan.
If I lose momentum / motivation, I go back to the ‘why’ and remind myself of the importance of this and I might adjust the plan to add some spice into things.
It’s a very simple set of questions, but they can, and for me, do, have a way of getting me off my backside to do things. So, if you are lacking a bit of motivation, on this fine Monday morning, ask yourself these questions, about an aspect of your life you want to ‘liven up’ and get your bum off the seat 😀
