I hope you all had a great weekend and are now looking forward to an exciting week ahead. Personally, I have a few things going on that I am looking forward to, and then there are a few things I’m not so keen on. I suppose that is life though, it wouldn’t be so much fun if everything was running smooth all the time.(Or would it?)
I do like a challenge and, possibly, a bit of drama now and then. It challenges me as a person to problem solve, be creative and gather support from others to influence things. I have an amazing network of friends and family that I draw on for support, feedback and guidance. Sometimes I don’t like what I hear, but that’s ok too.
There are times that I am looking for someone to listen, without judgement, and say, almost nothing! Then there are times I’d like advice and a different perspective on how to approach things. When I ask, “How would you do it?” or “What would you do if you were me?” I am genuinely interested in the response. I might not act on the advice, but it will shape my decision on what I do.
Life can be tough and making all the decisions on your own can be a little scary and also, quite lonely. As a business owner, there have been times I really didn’t know what to do with certain things. Do I follow this advice, do my own thing or look for another solution? Along the journey I have made poor decisions, of course, done things I shouldn’t have done and made many mistakes, but I’m (We’re) still here!
One of the best business decisions I made was to get a business partner. This helped share the load, gave me someone to discuss things with and plan a way forward. We have many ups and downs, disagreements and failed a few times, but we have also had fun, grown and developed a business that suits our needs. We are constantly working on ideas, plans and moving towards our ‘ever changing’ targets. We also have space for other interests and work with external organisations to keep ourselves ‘relevant’ and fresh.
Are there things I’d like that we don’t have? Of course and I could moan about not having this or not having that. I’d like to have a big RV to go travelling around the USA for 3-6 months with Sandra. I’d also like to go and visit more of the world and immerse myself in the beauty of nature and the amazing world we live in. I’d like to spend time helping others who are less fortunate than us, through no fault of their own, and try to make a difference.
The thing is though, you can’t do everything and you have to prioritise what is most important and, right now, that’s my family, spending time with them and, hopefully, providing them with opportunities to do more, see more and experience a great life (With us).
Having said that, the plans to do the USA trip, see more of the world and help others is also a reality, it just needs planning and funding. So back to work for me. Time to build, affect and grow our business so it can all become a reality, because, one day, my family will have their own family, their own dreams and different priorities. The circle of life continues…..
A lot is possible to fit into an 80 (ish) year life and we all want to achieve different things. There is nothing worse than saying, on your death bed, “I wish I’d..” it’s too late, no regrets!
Time to plan and act 👍🏻
If it’s to be It’s up to me. If not me then who? If not now, then when? (Searle brothers quote, I think!)
