After a busy weekend followed, by a busy start to the week, I feel the need for some R&R already. Sometimes it is the aggregated affect of having an amazing time with friends and family, maximising the time at the weekend, leading to a couple of late nights and a few drinks too many, that makes the energy levels lower.

I recognise that my resilience is a bit ‘sketchy’ and my patience, in meetings this morning, meant that I just said what I was feeling and, I didn’t suffer fools. I think it was ok because I expressed this in a way that didn’t upset anyone, as far as I know. (Two more meetings to go yet though!).

If I could have, I’d have cancelled the meetings and had a day to slowly get back into work and I’d have minimised any human interaction, but, sometimes, we don’t have the option to cancel things and we have to just do the best we can.

Don’t get me wrong, I had a fantastic weekend but my plan to get to bed earlier, last night, was scuppered due to the actions of one of the foster kids. I had to organise, and pay for, a taxi at 11pm to get ‘the little cherub’ from Swanage to Bournemouth because his lack of planning. Not great waiting for him to return home, when all I wanted to do was go to bed!

I have had a conversation with the young lad involved and, hopefully, the lesson has landed, so it won’t happen again. (I’m delusional but optimistic 😀).

I know that after a good nights sleep tonight, I’ll be back on track, will be less emotional and more rational, and potentially, more patient and productive! It won’t take long to recover, rejuvenate and bounce back, after all, it was only a weekend.

Here are my tips for a quick ‘bounce back’:

  • Hydrate well
  • Plan and prioritise your week (Factor in human interaction)
  • Choose your battles – save your energy and resolve for the meaty tasks
  • Balance your food intake – small, regular, healthy, meals to prevent high and lows
  • Take ‘time out’ to regain composure and avoid back-to-back meetings
  • Smile, even if you don’t feel like it, it will make you feel better! 😆

Have an amazing week, I’m just getting ready for my next meeting, “Where is the coffee?”.
