The year is passing fast and i feel that there are certain things I haven’t managed to do, yet. For instance I haven’t been to the swimming pool once and my goal was to go at least once a week, so not doing so well with that. I did spend most of Saturday sanding, cleaning and painting the ensuite and the ceiling, so it’s not like I’m dragging my heels, but I need to get into the habit of booking and going to the pool.

So, today is the day, I just booked the 2pm session???? I feel better already and, I know once I’ve done the first gentle session, I will be hooked.

One of my friends is ‘snowed under’ with work at the moment and we normally go to the gym a few times a week together, but he’s too busy. At the moment he needs to focus on the business but I know, if I keep nagging him, he will factor the time back in when it gets quieter. As soon as things get out of control it feels harder to get started, and health and fitness related activities seem to be really tough.

As soon as I let my internal voice start to doubt things I have to make sure I do something to counteract it (Like just book the session). Then I seem to just get it done.

The ensuite was another one of those things that dragged on a bit and I got use to it looking a bit run down, thinking the mould on the ceiling wasn’t that bad and saying to myself “It’s fine for another couple of months”. Then Sandra said how bad it was looking and we ‘should’ get it sorted. (That was the royal ‘we’). I knew I had Saturday free so I planned the task, brought the ‘stuff’, got the equipment together and got going. By the end of the day it was all done.

I am sure that, like me, you have loads of examples where you are not fully committed to doing something, not fully engaged with an idea, activity or task and it keeps going down the “to do list”. Sometimes we just need to let it go and strike it off the list. The swimming, for example, is not for any specific reason so I could just move on and leave it, not bother, if I kept putting it off.

I heard a saying recently “P*** or get off the pot” which made me laugh as I hadn’t heard it for quite some time and it is so, so relevant when it comes to the procrastination we often experience.

So, this week, have a look at your ‘to do list’ and check which items keep appearing on your list but never really get your full attention, and make a decision. Are you going to do it, or not?

Are you going to let it go?

Time to find my goggles and swimming hat!
