What a stressful week! I have been trying to get to grips with presenting using a certain virtual platform and it has been painful. It’s clunky, confusing and, for me, not fit for purpose. I gravitated towards a more dynamic, useful platform but, it seems, some companies are invested in the competitor.

I am delivering a 2-day workshop this week and I have spent most of my prep time working my way around using the delivery tool, rather than concentrating on the material. I have been close to the edge with my temper ready to boil over and everyone around me is desperate to help, but can’t!

I did finally sort things out (I think!) and managed to find some time to go through the trainers notes and PowerPoint to ensure I hit the spot for the client. I also spent more time on working out when we have breakouts, how use the chatbox and when to share certain screens, it’s been brutal.

Whilst going through the slides, I covered some information on growth and fixed mindset and the penny dropped – this is my fault! I have known that this client uses this delivery method for quite a while but, have ‘dragged my heels’ and not spent time to work out how it operates and the difference I may experience. I have listened to a friend of mine who also has experienced some problems so really didn’t want to start using it, hoping the client would switch to my preferred supplier – I had a fixed mindset!

It goes to show we can all resist the changes driven by others but, in reality, the sooner we just get on with it, the better it will be, the quicker we learn, adapt and perform. Some things are out of our control, we still have choices, but we either embrace the change, or get left behind! I must admit, it’s been mentally draining and I’m glad I’ve managed to work things out using YouTube, Google and my mates.

I still have a lot to learn and I really want to sit down with someone who considers themselves an expert, as I need to be good at this across all platforms.

I am going to enjoy the sessions, learn from mistakes and grow from this experience. I’ll let you know how it goes next week….

What things are you putting off, avoiding or stalling doing and is it time to ‘just do it’?
