If you are into sports, or not, and specifically football, you would have seen or heard about the terrible incident with Christian Eriksen at the weekend. I watched in horror as the medical team carried out life saving skills on him, whilst his team mates created a shield around him. I, like many other people, was in tears.

His wife was watching, from pitch side, and was being comforted by the Danish captain and Kasper Schmeichel, the Danish goal keeper. It was an emotional time for everyone experiencing this.

The crowds were in shock and suddenly it didn’t matter which team you supported, everyone was praying for Christian. The medical team worked hard and after some time managed to revived him, stretchered him off the pitch, and off to hospital to be looked after.

It’s times like this when you appreciate all of the training that the medical teams have had. Countless hours of running through drills allowed them to go into ‘automatic mode’ and save a man’s life. I know that I would not have been confident to do what they did, which has made me realise I need to go on a course. Even a basic first aid course is going to help when it comes to prolonging or supporting life, until the professionals arrive.

I am sure they will get praise and recognition and I am certain they will say “I was just doing my job” but what a great example of doing a life changing job.

As always, this got me thinking about life and how precious it is. I am certainly enjoying my life at the moment, work is building up, the family are well, the sun is out and England won their first game yesterday! How good can it get?

Joking aside, it is important to recognise what we do have and enjoy it as much as possible because it can be taken away in the blink of an eye. I am guilty of not appreciating the positives in my life and can focus on the wrong things which does affect me and, sometimes, those around me.

Today I feel positive and grateful, but, I am sure that as the day progresses there will be some challenges and things that test my patience. That’s life! At the end of the day I will focus my attention back to the good things in life and go for a walk along the beach to remind myself that life is good.

I hope your life is good, you and your families are safe and well and there is lots to be grateful for.
