I hope you all had a nice weekend and enjoyed Valentines day, irrespective if you have a partner or not. I noticed that the shops suddenly got busier over the weekend, with people doing their last minute shopping for this specific day. It is crazy, but it made me realise how important these days are for the retail industry and how much more people spend on cards, chocolates, flowers and other gifts.
It made me think that, when we get back to being ‘open’ again, if we add in 4 more extra holiday days to celebrate, over the year, we could reduce the deficit from the CV-19 impact over a period of time. This way no-one would feel punished and we could enjoy supporting the economic recovery. Simple thinking and I am sure there are more intelligent people out there who could knock this theory to pieces, but it’s just a thought.
We, I mean Sandra, finally got the kitchen painted over the weekend. We have been meaning to do this for quite a while but have put it off, for various reasons. We brought a new kitchen clock, new tea, coffee and sugar pots and finally decided to throw the old blinds that have been hanging on for years. It looks so much better and didn’t even take a whole day to do, I don’t know why we didn’t just get on with it before now!
All of the DIY plans at the beginning of the first lockdown seemed to get overwhelming and eventually stopped, getting started, let alone finished. We did a bit of gardening but every time I look out of the window, now, I realise nature can be relentless and the garden needs doing again. It looks worse than it did when we started on the first lockdown, I’ve let it go. Spinning all of life’s plates can be exhausting and even though I have had so much more time on my hands, the plate spinning still seems to challenge me, it’s just different tasks.
I do look forward to getting back in the training room and delivering a programme face-to-face. I am looking forward to getting on a plane and going away for a few days working, staying in a hotel. I am looking forward to separating the weekdays from the weekend again as my days seem to roll into each other at times. I am looking forward to watching football, now and then, instead of every night – it’s getting boring.
Other things that I am looking forward to doing:
- Going to the pub / restaurant
- Getting back to the gym routine
- Watching my Son play football at the weekends
- Meeting friends
- Celebrating Birthdays etc, properly
The good thing is, it’s all going to be possible. It will all return to normal and we will be able to enjoy, and possibly appreciate even more, all of those simple things. This makes me smile and keeps me positive. Zoom has been fantastic, on a professional and personal level, but you can’t beat meeting work colleagues for a catch up over a coffee or having a beer and chat with a mate in the pub, ever. Nothing comes close to face-to-face connection, and, humans need that interaction with other humans.
Today, I feel very positive because I know I will see people again and be able to do all of those, things again, soon and so will you!
