Well it’s finally here, Christmas music has landed! I must admit I am looking forward to Christmas as I see it as a celebration of survival this year. It won’t be the same as other years and I know most people will feel the same. I am viewing it through a slightly different lens this year, I feel lucky!

Apart from the obvious struggles that we have all felt or experienced, me and my family have come through this (so far) a bit dented and confused, but healthy and safe.I hope it has been manageable for you too. As we know, there has been so much to moan about and the reality for us all is different, but the light at the end of the tunnel is here.

Here are some of my lessons from 2020:

  • Don’t take freedom for granted
  • Enjoy and take time to appreciate everything you have
  • Save for a rainy day – just in case
  • Talk about things, especially the tough stuff
  • Recognise that everyone has ‘something’ going on – have empathy

My plans for 2021:

  • Take time to go for walks together still
  • Make the most of my freedom, go places, see things
  • Get my business back on it’s feet but recognise the need to balance things
  • Continue to speak to mates and arrange regular group calls – it’s been fun!

I spoke to a mate of mine at the weekend and we did the normal chat and moaned about things and I said “There is so much wrong in the world, that needs fixing” and he said “There is so much beauty and so many things that are perfect too”

We can’t ignore the bad stuff but maybe it’s time to appreciate the world too. This has been a warning to us all, it has made us focus on healing the world and to move certain initiatives along faster. Cleaner fuel, environmental repairs, mental health, equality, efficient communication, global team working and so many other things. The world will never be the same again and our approach to ‘what’s important’ has shifted, for the best. (In my opinion)

What have you taken from this year and how will you change for next year?

We are on the final push, so stay safe and look after yourself and finish strong!
