The weather was terrible on Saturday and I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed dropping my Daughter and Granddaughter to Hengistbury Head (near the beach) to meet her Mum and watch them get absolutely soaked within minutes. The reason for my enjoyment was not a sadistic vent but a realisation that this would be a great experience for them all. It replaced the normal position of inactivity in front of the technology, with exercise, some discomfort and a shared experience to build fond memories.
I must admit I went home and had a coffee, in the comfort of my front room, reflecting on how happy I was to be indoors!
Some of my best memories and friendships have come as a result of an uncomfortable situation or a place of hardship. Situations that, at the time were, probably, not that enjoyable but they built my character and created valuable lessons for my future. I find myself sharing these experiences with my children to stop them making similar mistakes but then there are times I let them find out the lesson for themselves, I like to call that experiential learning!
It is amazing what we can endure as human beings, how the body and mind develops when challenged and stretched beyond our comfort zone. The situation we are in at the moment is stretching everyone and I certainly feel it is a challenging experience that, I hope, will be something I look back on and find lessons from. The ability to remain positive is definitely a challenge. There are times when I am full of energy and I get things done and then there are times I just reflect and do nothing.
I am sure most people are feeling the same and have bouts of activity followed by a spell of hibernation. DIY for a week, then exercise is the focus followed by absolutely nothing! I have come to terms with this and allow myself the pleasure of doing nothing, without feeling guilty. I try not to stay in that zone for too long but I know it is part of this new journey we are on.
This week my focus is on fixing my outdoor shelter (where my bikes are under cover). This is damaged and making a noise every time the wind picks up. I have tried to patch it up and even put a couple buckets of bricks on top to stop the corrugated plastic from flying away, but it needs doing properly. I’ll have to plan it better this time and do a better job than last time so, hopefully it lasts a few years before I need to do it again.
A week of activity for me, this week, but who knows what next week will bring, maybe, I’ll get my trainers on again and start running!
What have you got planned? A series of Netflix, a book to read, exercise to do, learning to cook a new meal, sorting out your wardrobe – have fun doing whatever you chose to do.
Have a great week.
