I have, in the past, thought about changing the Monday Motivator into the Monday Moan!
It would be so much easier to moan about things I don’t like, disagree with or think are wrong with this world, my life and my job. I can immediately think of loads of things in those categories to share with you. It is harder to identify positive things, share motivational stories and bring light to someone else’s day, especially as they have probably, already, been exposed to some negative input in some way. The news or social media being a massive contributor, as always.
For some of us, Monday, by just being the start of the week, is a bad thing and sets us up in a negative frame of mind. For others, a Monday morning is exciting and motivating, so is it really Monday that is the catalyst or is it something else?
For me, it depends on the content of my week. If I have some exciting projects I’m working on, then I’m normally really motivated to get stuck into the week, but, if I have something I’m dreading, then I’ll probably start slowly, procrastinate a bit and distract myself with other, more exciting stuff.
Most things, in life, can be viewed in a positive or negative light depending on the lens we are looking through. I have learnt, over the years, that there is seldomly, a right or wrong answer in life, there are just differing points of view. I am more likely to listen to others, allow them time to influence me and then make my mind up or even sit on the fence a bit.
There are, however, some things I do have a solid opinion on and it’s normally linked to the values I think are important. Things like fairness, autonomy, authenticity and integrity. These are big for me and are things I have stood up for and still stand up for.
With so much happening in the world, and, being restricted in our movements, it is easier to get absorbed in the news and views of politicians or experts and be influenced. The thing that keeps me away from creating a banner and rushing to Bournemouth town centre, is the fact I don’t know which cause to join. It could be BLM, the debate on statues, global warming, environmental issues, recycling, poverty, homelessness, clean water, animal charities, unwanted pets and so on…..
Where do we start?
I don’t have time to be involved, on a big scale, with anything other than my family, friends, my job and getting by at the moment. I am wrapping myself in my own little bubble to protect my ‘inner circle’ from the negativity and trying to look after our lives and our futures. It seems to be keeping me sane and helps with the potential overload of modern day pressures. I process things that I can and can’t control and I pick my battles wisely.
How do you keep mentally strong in this tough time? Who is in your bubble and who do you need to support?
Together we can get through every problem. We can solve issues by contributing , even small things, for worthy causes. We have to look at building a great world again, a fairer, more equal world for everyone.
I am starting on my ‘bubble’ with education, discussion and action. Then maybe we can join another group and do the same – eventually we can change the world!
