Rain, rain, go away…..
Yes, even I have had enough of the relentless rain! The reason I am getting bored with the weather is that it is now impacting my routine. Jack’s (My Son) football games have been cancelled, cycling has been called off, which means my Saturdays needed filling and that takes planning and thinking. I didn’t realise how much of a routine I actually have in my life.
Also, when the football and cycling are not on, I can get bored on my own, apathy sets in and I end up frustrated having not achieved anything during the day!
Don’t get me wrong, I have loads that needs doing but most of it needs planning. The DIY takes organising and not something I normally feel motivated to do at a moments notice. The gym is always an option but I have normally done enough during the week, so a rest is useful. So what should I do?
I feel guilty if I sit and watch films all day or read a book for a couple of hours and I recognise that I need to achieve something that I deem as ‘worthwhile’.
I have loads of options and from now on I have decided I need to establish a ‘Plan B’. These are:
- Go swimming – I haven’t gone to the pool for over a year, since I stopped the Ironman events
- Bring the turbo sessions into play – I don’t really like cycling indoors but this will help my preparation for my event in July
- Make a list of DIY tasks – I have rooms that still need a lick of paint and it would only take an afternoon to complete a room (Pick a room!)
- Get back into my running – even in the rain, a short 3 mile run will be a success
Just by making that list, I feel that a rainy weekend will be more productive. I could fit a few of those things in and feel like I have accomplished something.
I’m actually looking forward to a rainy weekend now!
I know, some people, would just enjoy the space and time to do nothing or relax but I need to have something to make me feel like the day has not been wasted. What do you do when your routine is broken? How do you fill the void?
What are the top 5 things, you might have been putting off, stopped doing or forgot that you used to enjoy doing, that would make your rainy day fulfilling?
