After the IT meltdown last week, I managed to retrieve all of the data I lost – phew! (Thank you Mark B)
I don’t know about you, but I am enjoying the change in the weather. The clocks went back, leading to darker evenings, and I think it just bring something different to our lives. It certainly makes me appreciate the good weather more, when we have it, and also encourages me to do things to maximise those days.
Last Tuesday was a sunny day so I jumped on the motorbike and rode over to Corfe and Swanage, just to get out of the office, away from emails and to regenerate my energy levels. It was fantastic to get my thoughts away from work and to take in some of the beautiful sights around the local area. It would have been a shame to miss the opportunity.
I can imagine that, if it was always sunny in Bournemouth, I’d have stayed in the office, knowing that I could get a ride in the next day or the day after and, it probably wouldn’t have happened at all.
I recognise that I need to clear my head and get away from things and I do make sure that I create space and time to balance life out. It’s too easy to let things build up and let the pressure steadily increase because there is so much to fit in and do.
Do you take’ time out’ to think, relax or re-energise?
The benefit of going out on the bike, for me, was obvious. When I returned to the office my head was clear, I got on with a couple of things and then closed up for the day. I didn’t miss any dead lines, no-one was calling me asking for vital information and the world carried on revolving.
Sometimes we think the world will stop, the business will grind to a halt or things will not function without our input. When, in reality, nothing much changed in my 2 hours away, apart from me clearing my head.
Now, I not suggesting you all go and buy a motorbike and go off riding for a couple of hours as soon as the sun comes out, but are there times you could change your scenery and get away for 10 minutes? Can you allow yourself some ‘me time’ without feeling guilty (or getting sacked).
Have a great week and enjoy the experience.
