After upgrading my computer operating system I suddenly found that I couldn’t open my emails! I had been using an old email programme that I was now not able to open up with the new version. I have to be honest, I was so angry! (Please email me if you normally do business with me or connect with me on a regular basis – I don’t have your emails stored now!)

Why didn’t Microsoft warn me that this would happen? To just let me update, what I thought was a ‘normal’ improvement, and to then lose over 5 years of emails was not a good thing.

I have been forced to use Microsoft Outlook now, which I am looking forward to doing, but it would be really helpful if my old emails had automatically transferred over for me to deal with. If Microsoft are that intelligent, they should have worked out that some people might still be using their older programme.

This does prove, to me, that we all like what we like. I used a system that was becoming outdated but I hadn’t even noticed. It did everything I wanted it to do and I had everything organised in a way the suited my logic. I don’t understand why I need to use a different system!

Having worked in many different businesses, this also happens to them. Technology moves on and suddenly everything needs to change. It could be that the existing system is no longer able to cope with the growth of the organisation or the requirements that develop and change, but it is a constant process in our ‘tech’ lives now.

I do have the information still on my computer but I need to convert the files to a new format to be able to read them, which is proving difficult. I need to contact an expert and get some advice, I think.

The next time there is an update, I will check online, before pressing the green button, and see what impact it could have on my existing system – lesson learnt about not reading the small print. There is always something available to read on the www so I really should have taken the time to research the updates and the impact this would have.

I am slightly lazy when it comes to reading detail so this is an area of development for me. When I have completed psychometric tests, I come out as impatient and I am a person who just wants to get on with things, without thinking too much, and this can be useful at times, but, it can also cause issues….

We all have strengths that can become weaknesses if we overuse them, what trait do you have that you may be overusing?
