Sometimes changes, seemingly, come from nowhere and have a massive impact on people and businesses. There are plenty of examples in the news at the moment with the car industry making big changes, the retailers making big changes and some IT firms having to reinvent things, due to data breaches.
Lives are impacted and the collateral damage, is mostly felt by normal people like you and me. Time to start again and look for another job or relocate to satisfy the business need. More upheaval, pressure and effort felt by thousands of people because of ‘ultimately’ one final decision.
This, unfortunately or fortunately, is how the world has changed. We no longer have jobs for life and we have to constantly reinvent ourselves to keep ahead of the game and secure our futures.
My children have a different future ahead of them with change being the main theme. I think the ability to see opportunities, in a changing world, is a skill the younger generation need to develop. It’s what makes things change faster and self perpetuates the problem or creates the opportunity.
No longer can we say “It’s always been this way” There is no room for complacency or time to rest on your laurels, there is a constant requirement for energy to move forwards.
I must say “I love it” and enjoy the challenge but, sometimes, it can be draining. The effort to keep ahead is monumental and needs focus and determination to achieve targets and goals.
Having said that, there is also time to enjoy the results and achievements, along the way. Time to celebrate success and feel good about every little step in the right direction. Yes, there will be knocks along the way and we have to be mindful of these, be prepared and learn from each experience.
I’ve noticed that not many people celebrate success as much as they should. People don’t appreciate each other as much as they should. I also recognise that people who feel valued and appreciated tend to go the extra mile for the boss, team or company. We get more from people if they feel involved and engaged and it doesn’t take much to achieve this.
All we have to do is to catch people doing things right. Notice the good stuff and make comments about the impact they are having by doing what they are doing. It’s far too easy to spot what is going wrong and comment on those things.
Appreciating what you have can put things into perspective and help you create more energy to push forward when needed.
Ask yourself these questions:
- What 3 things, in your life, are you grateful for?
- What 3 things, have you achieved this month, that you are proud of?
- What 3 things do you want to achieve this week?
Have an amazing week and celebrate all of your achievements, no matter how small.
