Good morning and happy Monday!

After my diabolical travel experience to Berlin, I got some good news from KLM, they paid us compensation that nearly covered the cost of the holiday!

Normally I wouldn’t complain about things, but in this instance, I decided to fill in their online form and share the details of our experience. I was surprised at the response and pleased that I’d taken the time to fill the form in.

How often does that happen? I don’t know about you but I don’t generally complain about this type of thing and just deal with it, after all,  ‘stuff happens’ in life and there is not much we can do about it – or so I thought! I have to say, I do feel better about it now and I will book another flight with KLM in the future, so their compensation has had the desired effect, plus some, because I am now sharing this with you so it ‘may’ impact your thoughts on KLM and their great customer service dealing with this situation.

I love sharing stories when things go well and I have a great experience. I think that sharing the ‘good stuff’ takes more effort because, as humans, we do like to dwell on negative things – it’s more interesting.  The newspapers are full of bad things, the news on TV is full of the woes and trouble across the world, and, we have Brexit!

The problem, looking at problems all of the time, means sometimes, we can forget to look for solutions. We are having too much fun, discussing how bad something is, that we forget to identify what it is we want and how to get it.

I spend a large amount of time, in organisations, discussing change and the impact it has on performance. Generally, we end up running goal setting and action planning sessions as a way of focussing on solutions and desired outcomes.

It’s so much more positive to work towards something you want rather than moaning about what you don’t want!

If there is anything in your life that you tend to moan about, here are a couple of questions that may help turn it around:

  • First thing is to identify what you want – what, exactly, does good look like?
  • What is the benefit from doing the same thing and what is the consequence of taking action? If the list of benefits is long and the list of consequences is long – you don’t want to change!
  • What is the benefit of taking action and consequence of not taking action? If these lists are longer, you are ready to change things.
  • What will you do in the next 24 hours, as a first step towards your goal?
  • List everything else you need to do to make this happen. When will you do them?

I am confident that if you spend some time thinking about these questions you can produce amazing changes with some of the things you want to change, or do.
