MM249

I was speaking to a client last week (Good morning Amanda and Sarah 🙂 on a catch up call, and during the call they mentioned that they still read, and enjoyed receiving the MM. I completely forgot that some people have been reading these posts for over 4 years now.

I have been posting the MM every week (unless there have been Bank holidays or I’ve had technical issues) for a long time.

Some MM’s connect with some people and they really enjoy the message, others fall short or the message is not relevant but it’s been a regular feature for some people’s Monday morning ritual.

Thank you for reading these and sometimes commenting, it makes it worthwhile and I appreciate your comments.

Last week I was a support consultant for a company and had to help the lead consultant to manage and facilitate a group. I learnt so much from the lead consultant. He delivered material that is not the sort of material I deliver and I really enjoyed his sessions. I tried to add value where I could and I made tea and coffee when needed, I even got the cakes in!

It was an intense 5 days and I was grateful to be home at the end of the week but it did make me reflect on my experience.

I don’t think there is a day that goes by where I don’t learn something new. These lesson could be  from anyone such as my business partner, friends or family members and, at times, I wonder how we fit all that information into our brains! It’s amazing how powerful the brain is!

With desire and effort, I think we can learn anything. With great teachers, mentors and coaches, anything is possible.

Carol Dweck (click for YouTube video) did studies on the Growth vs. Fixed mindset and makes the link to effort and success obvious. I do believe in natural talent or having a natural disposition to being good at certain things, but it’s certainly not always about your gene pool!

Gifted and talented parents can have children that don’t follow in their footsteps and, likewise, average parents can have amazing children with outstanding skills / talents.

The main thing that connects achievement and success is effort and motivation. Average footballers can be in top teams because they put in effort and are reliable, they have desire and work hard for a common objective. There are also a million + talented footballers that play Sunday league with their pub mates!

So, if you want to learn something new, that you’ve always wanted to learn, ask yourself “Do I really want it enough?” and “Am I prepared to work hard to achieve it?”

If you answer yes to both off those questions, “When are you going to start the journey?”
