Often, on a Sunday morning, I afford myself the luxury of laying in bed, with a cup of coffee watching the Andrew Marr show.
As usual he had a variety of people reading and discussing topics in the newspapers, he interviewed Emmanuel Macron and he had a guest – Tina Brown, a journalist, magazine editor, columnist, talk-show host and author.
Listening to her talk and recount experiences from her life, I couldn’t help but admire her. She came across well and I actually wanted to find out more about her, I was intrigued.
She is successful and well thought of in her industry, she was appointed the CBE for her services to overseas journalism and in 2007 was inducted into the Magazine Editors’ Hall of Fame. She has done very well in her career, and it’s not over yet.
The thing I noticed, during her interview, was that there had been bad / tough times along the way. She had failed many times on her journalistic journey, but rose to the top after reinventing herself over and over again. I am sure that many others would have given up but Tina had grit, determination and presence of mind to create her successes along a hard bumpy ride.
However, it was the failures that created her successes, but only because she learnt from them and did something different to overcome her challenges / issues.
She never gave up. This short video from Will Smith echos that approach: Click here to watch
Fail early, fail often and fail forward.
How many times do you need to fail to have the success you desire?
Remember, you only really fail when you stop trying! That is applicable to everything such as, giving up smoking, getting fit, being promoted, buying a house or houses, saving for a holiday or even learning a new language.
Fail and learn, change something and then go again….
Have a fantastic week ahead
