Watching my children grow up fills me with joy, pride and nervousness!
I wonder how things will pan out for them. Will they have fantastic lives and enjoy every moment?
I suppose most parents will, at some point, wonder if they have done enough to help each child on their way.
My children seem to be well rounded, capable and have a good amount of common sense, which will develop with life experience and time. I think we have done a good job (pat on the back, thank you!)
Having said that, every day throws up new challenges and I do realise that once you are a parent, you are always a parent. A place for your children to return for help, guidance and support – forever. I like the feeling of being there for them when they need a shoulder to cry on, a sounding board to run ideas past and having time ‘face timing’ for a general catch up, it’s great.
In my job I communicate to other people and try to inspire them to do things, behave differently or be more aware. This can be harder with the people close to you and there are many brilliant, dedicated, caring people out there that have failed to keep their children on track, despite their efforts. So I look for things that might give a message to others that, as a third party endorsement, may have an impact, small or large.
This video has been around for a while and I remember smiling and agreeing with it before, so I thought that I would share with you guys this week. It is a 6:43 minute video by a comedian Tim Minchin called Live to Learn. Click here
I hope you enjoy the clip and it inspires you to do something that, probably your parents told you to do already, but you didn’t take any notice of.
Having the ability to learn is one of the fundamental skills we have as humans, it differentiates us from all other animals. We learn, not only to survive but to live and experience things.
We should learn to live and live to learn.
