Everything about this man is amazing. I was on the edge of my seat watching this race and he ran it beautifully, I can’t wait to watch the 5000 race.
His success is driven by his desire to be the best and this is not only in his sporting career.
He does what many others wouldn’t and I am not sure if I have given the same level of commitment, he does, towards anything in my life.
I have approached things, to date, on a slightly different angle.
There have always been shortcuts and attempts to get by with minimal effort, throughout my whole life.
I look back and wonder how much I could have done if I’d really applied myself, committed and took action. After all, that’s the difference between success and failure with quite a few things in life.
The lack of effort and consistency is probably the biggest source of underachievement, for quite a few people. If I’d tried harder at school, with my education, things might have taken a different turn.
A good friend of mine from the Royal Air Force was in the same trade as me, a Physical Training Instructor. We both played sport for a living really, but when I left the RAF I realised I didn’t have anything I could do because I didn’t have many qualifications that related to a job outside of the military. I ended up driving lorries and doing deliveries, which I hated! I couldn’t stand getting to work at 0600, loading up the lorry and then spend the day driving. I decided that, after hitting too many obstacles (literally) I wanted to be in the fitness industry again so I went on a course, got qualified and set up my own business as a personal trainer, massage therapist and aerobics instructor.
When my friend left the RAF, he decided to become a lawyer, he studied for years, joined a big company, to get some great experience, and now has his own business. He is doing amazingly well with the business growing and growing, every month, and he works hard at it. I admire his work ethic and determination.
I didn’t want to follow that route as it was too much like hard work! Don’t get me wrong, I now do something that requires a level of education, I have worked hard to get where I am. I have read many books, listened to speakers, watched videos, listened to recordings and asked for loads and loads of feedback to improve my skills. Could I be better / more successful?
Yes I know I can, and I do know I would be much further along if I’d have put more effort in, earlier along my journey.
It’s never to late to learn.
I may be past my best when it comes to football, but I think I still have capacity to learn more. I’m not sure I quite have the ‘Sir Mo Farah attitude and dedication’ to being the best at anything but I am working on being the best version of me!
There is a long way to go, just ask my wife and kids.
