Last week was busy, which meant time away from home, in hotels, travelling and hard work. I enjoyed every minute, it was challenging, exciting and rewarding.
I did love getting home, being around my family and getting back into my own bed.
Having said that, the reality of being home was soon apparent! After the hugs and kisses welcoming me back, it took about 10 minutes for the first argument to begin.
Normal family stuff brings you down to earth, with a bang at times, and I like that.
Life can get you into patterns and routines and you can drift along and before you know it, you look in the mirror and the person looking back has grey hair, wrinkles and is wearing glasses!
Oh yeah, that’s me. When did that happen?
Having said that, I still feel young and have so much to do with my life, I feel vibrant and am enjoying all of the things in life, even the arguments add a contrast to the hotels and silence of a ‘meal for one’.
Sitting down listening to everything going on and liking the fact that life is so diverse and interesting, makes me smile. Recently I have been waking up and the sun is shining, I look out of the bedroom window and think how lucky we are, to have everything we have.
Of course, we could have more. More money, newer cars, a bigger house, more holidays, a boat, a holiday home, a private jet or a place in Sandbanks (next to Harry!) – but at what cost?
Having everything doesn’t ensure happiness and having nothing doesn’t ensure sadness. It’s all about appreciation and desire, what do you have that you appreciate and what is it that you don’t have but desire? If the balance is not right then life might be frustrating or it could be exhilarating and satisfying, depending on what you focus on.
Don’t get me wrong I do find myself moaning at times and wanting more from life, but it’s not long before someone or something changes my focus and makes me appreciate what we do have.
If you were to list all the things you are grateful for, things or people you appreciate, how long would the list be?
I still like to set goals and strive for improvements which, I think, is important for growth and development. It gives me a challenge and something to look forward to but now and then I need to slow down, take a breath and enjoy the moment, even if it is listening to an argument!
