The excitement was building last week for my Son Eddie. He was going on a school trip on Friday but on the Monday morning I noticed a difference in his behaviour.
He almost jumped out of bed every morning, counting the days down.
The whole week was engulfed with kit lists and checking equipment such as torches, batteries and sleeping bags.
I loved the fact he was so excited.
I can’t remember when I was that excited about something. Most of the things I get involved with have a degree of nervous energy and pressure attached to them. Even the fitness ‘stuff’ is pressured with personal performance targets.
I am sure that while Eddie is away he will be stretched and taken out of his comfort zone, so some of the excitement will turn into adrenalin / nervous energy. But, I did envy the child-like excitement, really, really looking forward to something, so much so, it made him giddy!
I haven’t allowed myself that guilty pleasure for some time. My free, natural child has been locked away in a world of sensible adult environments for some time. I actually dislike it when I see teenagers acting in a childish manner and make quips (in my head) such as “Grow up, act your age!”
Have I become Victor Meldrew? (Those of you under 40 might need to Google that reference!)
It’s not to say I don’t have a laugh and joke about, but real anticipation and innocent excitement is not something I feel much, and it would be inappropriate to be child-like at work. I have to remind myself that life is something to really enjoy and, amongst the serious nature of paying bills and feeding the family, we should have more fun.
There are some people that do have a real blast, even though their jobs are, at times, very serious.
Here are a couple of short clips that made me laugh and brought out the child in me:
Phil and Holly
Bradley (slightly naughty)
I trust one of these made you laugh and started your Monday off with a little bit of light hearted fun.
