I met with a business owner last week to discuss how we could use his expertise for some of our clients, and vice versa.

After hearing what he offers and how he delivers his product, I was really impressed. He had left his job to pursue his passion and the energy came through as he described some of his recent projects.

I instantly knew that we will make this work and this is going to develop into something great. When I left him, I felt energised and motivated.

When did that happen to you last? When did someone else’s energy set you alight?

I know, for sure, you will remember a time when someone made you feel bad, drained and needing a sleep to recover from their negative energy. Isn’t it amazing that we can be impacted by another person’s energy? If we are surrounded by them for a lot of time it can have a lasting affect which pours into other areas of our lives.

Energy spreads…..

The problem is that, sometimes, we don’t get a choice who we sit with or work with, who our boss is or who visits us. It would be great to only mix with people you wanted to mix with but life is not that simple at times.

If you were to write a list of people you wanted to be around, who would be on the list, and, if you asked the people around you the same question, would you be on their list?

When you meet, and really can’t avoid, the negative person, here are some tips to get back you to normal:

  • Have time to vent – get someone to talk to who just listens
  • Use the negative energy productively – go to the gym, run or go on a walk
  • Meditate – use breathing techniques to calm you down and re-focus
  • Mix with someone who energises you – speak to a person who makes you laugh
  • Watch a stupid video of babies laughing (Baby no.2 is the best!)

A happy workforce is a productive workforce – unless they spend all day watching videos!

This week, have a go at energising other people by:

  • Being positive
  • Giving genuine compliments
  • Being interested in them
  • Smiling and laughing more
  • Being passionate about what you are doing

Try it, you never know what may happen…..
