How has your week been? Did you enjoy the negativity spreading across all aspects of our media?
From the England team crashing out of the Euro 2016, another terrorist attack and of course the rumble of politicians positioning themselves for the next challenge for the leadership.
It takes some doing, not to let some of that affect your mood and dampen your resolve at times.
At least Boris changed his mind – phew!
My theory is though, you just have to take the bull by the horns, and make your mark, if you want certain things in life. No-one drops things into your lap and says “There you go, that’s you set up for life, enjoy!”
Success comes with a certain amount of challenge, determination and, sometimes, pain. Have a look at this short video clip for a quick example (2:02 mins): Petra Majdic
With every example of something bad happening, there are also great things happening, we just don’t tend to focus on them or even notice them, at times. (It doesn’t make good news) There are so many great things we could notice but it is difficult to block out some things that ‘could’ change our lives, such as, the economy, the pound weakening, share prices dropping or job losses.
My question is “What can we do to impact these things?” If there is something that can be done, then we should do it. If not then we have to let things run their course, but, in the mean time, we may have some challenges, have to be determined and go through some pain to achieve what we want.
Here are my personal 5 top tips to stay ‘on track’ and remain positive:
- Have a fantastic support network – from family, work colleagues and friends, this is so important. We all need a shoulder to cry on, a kick up the backside and advice / guidance. It may be someone who just listens, a person who challenges you or someone that joins your crusade. The network is vital.
- Look after you – I don’t mean be selfish but I do mean look after you. Your health and wellbeing cannot be replaced with money and material things. Take time out to exercise, eat well, rest and recuperate. Read great books to ignite and inspire you, from time to time.
- Be grateful for what you do have – often we focus on what we don’t have, which can drag your mood down. There will always be someone else who is better off but when you look at what you do have, there are also many others who would love what you have.
- Help others – Energy is never destroyed, just moved on. I believe ‘what goes around, comes around’. If you give out some good energy, you will receive some back, along the way. It is also nice to do.
- Set your stall out – do what you say you are going to do. Be true to your word and avoid letting people down. This is how people will remember you, and the impact you had on them, and if you are reliable and trustworthy, when push comes to shove, people will be a great support.
These tips are things you already know and, on reflection, are blindingly obvious, but who do you know that follows these 5 simple tips? I sometimes fall down on a couple myself, I’m not always grateful for ‘my lot’ and often want more. I could also ‘look after me’ a bit better by taking time out to relax (without a beer in my hand!)
Which ones do you need to put more effort into?
Life is short, and should be sweet, whilst we are on this dynamic planet, let’s maximise our personal experiences by making things happen.
