So, after having the boiler serviced and the pump replaced I thought everything would be ok, for at least a couple of years. But no, the heating stopped working and has been out of action for about 10 days now, which has really pleased the Broad household – NOT.

I have had moans and gripes from everyone, had to gather heaters from the loft storage and stepped up the use of wood on the fire. What a tough life! Fortunately, the water was still heating up, otherwise I might have been the only one left living here (For a short time only). The plumber is coming out again on Wednesday and, hopefully, that will be the end of my troubles, for now.

The good thing is that the green shoots of spring are in the air and the temperature is slowly rising so hopefully means we use the heating less. This pleases me because the price of everything seems to be rising so if I can use less, it’ll cost me less! I am starting to look at my travel plans and making decisions regarding meetings with a slightly different lens than maybe 2 months ago. I really wanted to get back to travelling and arranging meetings and face-to-face training again but after the virtual space being quite successful and petrol, rail fares and general travel costs going through the roof, I am being more conservative.

There is no point throwing it (money) away for no good reason, especially as it takes effort and time to earn it in the first place. I am not a ‘skin flint’ but there are times to tighten the belt and make sensible choices when the world is in so much turmoil and uncertainty. I am sure (Hope and pray) things will calm down soon and the world will come to it’s senses, but who knows?

I have seen local shops collecting items for the people suffering in the Ukraine and it is nice to see such charitable actions across the world. It brings back some faith in humanity and I realise there are more good people than bad people in the world, so inevitably, things should regain balance and our ‘shared world’ will begin the quest to look after the planet again.

At the moment, life goes on as normal (Except for price rises) and the impact here in the UK is an emotional one of disbelief, but not much more. We are still doing business as usual, and watching with bated breath for the next steps, counter measures, sanctions and punishment for Putin. Where will it end?

For me, I am trying my best not to listen to the news too often during the week. I catch up twice a day just to stay informed, but then carry on with life. As most people, we are all worried and have to be prepared for all eventualities, but we have to carry on living our lives.

My heating problem pales in to insignificance when I look at the big picture and I feel bad for complaining myself for being ‘a bit cold’!

I appreciate life, what I have and every experience each day. Just being alive another 24 hours is the goal for some Ukrainians so I feel blessed and I’m sure you do too.

Have a great week, stay safe and say a prayer for everyone in the Ukraine.
