It’s been a mad few weeks with storms and wars and it makes me wonder what the hell is going on in the world. I woke up on Saturday morning, the sun was shining and I just lay there, listening to the silence. Normally I’d turn the TV on and catch up with the daily news but this time I didn’t, I just took time to enjoy the peace and quiet.
My thoughts were on the beauty of ‘nothingness’ – a comfortable feeling of safety, security and warmth, no deadlines, tasks, or urgent things to do.
Then I turned the TV on and the reality, of my world versus other people’s present experience and how different they are, became obvious. With Putin being able to start his campaign and bulldozer his tanks and army into the Ukraine while we sit back and watch is frustrating and disappointing. This is something that should never happen, ever again, but it is.
I am not a politician or a historian, so my knowledge of what, how and why, is limited. I just know it is wrong and should not be allowed to continue. As things ‘play out’ I wonder who the real leaders will be. Who will step up and make a difference or create their legacy? Now is the time for strong characters to rise to the top, influence others and change the course of history – now is the time for people in power to fulfil their vision and be the best they can be.
So, with all of that going on in my head now, I have to concentrate and try to block out the affect it could have. Selfishly, I had a weekend to enjoy with my family, so my crusade for peace and justice will go no further and have no impact. I have to let it go as I realise that this is bigger than me, and out of my control, I can’t affect things. However, I can lead my best life, enjoy every moment and indulge myself in each experience. That is in my control and I have decided to maximise life as and when I can.
For most of us, life goes on and we just get on with things. My cycling trip to Mallorca is now booked, in May, and I am looking forward to that. The family holiday is under negotiation and I am planning a camping trip to Wales for the end of June, hoping for nice weather.
Life goes on and all you can do is to have hope.
- I hope we stop all wars
- I hope we stop world hunger
- I hope homelessness is irradicated
- I hope we cure all cancers
- I hope we can live our best lives
From hope, comes action and from action comes change. We have to take action to have an impact. So, what am I going to do? The only one I can control is to live my best life. I can contribute to the others by doing simple things, charitable things, and hope that my small act of kindness has an impact somewhere.
So this week my focus is on simple small acts that are in my control which will, possibly, build momentum with other like minded people.
I love this video of Obama making a speech, basically saying “Every voice counts” (6 mins)
