Being able to adapt and flex between environments, is something that I have been working on for a few months. My home working situation changes almost daily and I have had to deliver my virtual workshops, 1-1 coaching, meetings and complete my admin tasks in a variety of settings.

Like most of you, I’d prefer a quiet house with no distractions, but, unfortunately that is not always possible. The only room I have, that is spare, is the dining room and that seems to be a space that everyone wants to visit at some point of the day. I have had interruptions on most calls and have tried my best to manage things in a professional manner, using mute, turning the video camera off, to quickly look at someone, jump out of my seat to let the dog in / out of the house, to stop him barking! It’s been quite stressful at times.

Fortunately, I can see an end to all of this and, as things return to normal, I’ll be able to relax and get on with things without fear of my ‘home life’ crashing into my ‘work life’. Although, I do appreciate we have become a bit more tolerant when things do go wrong or people do get distracted, it has, in itself, become the norm.

So, for those of you that have experienced something similar, the question is how do we remain tolerant and how does the new working life look for you?

I am looking at home offices now and, as my garden is about two weeks from completion (so they say!) I’m getting quite excited about having this new space. I do, however, need to make sure the cash flow can take the hit. No point having a nice new office and not being able to pay the mortgage! I have had advice on what to buy, the insulation to use, wifi to wire in and, as Winter is coming, what heating to have. I can imagine myself in there now!

My target date for completion, for everything, is December 15th 2021.

It is amazing when you do actually plan to do something and start the first actions towards it, the momentum picks up and, before you know it, you are nearly at the finish line!

So, my challenge for you all reading this is, what small steps can you take between now and Christmas to achieve something you want to achieve? Maybe something you’ve always wanted to do but have never had the time, money or resource?

What is your first step and when will you do it?

Tip toe if you must…..
